On March 12th Garstang Soroptimists transported bags and boxes of equipment collected for the Backpack Project, which provides a child with a simple backpack filled with all the items needed to attend school in countries that have often had wars and famine or a natural disaster. It enables them to have an education, which can be a lifeline to these children.
Six Forton children helped the Soroptimists to fill 10 bags, and then labelled them for boys or girls, before signing their own name so that the children would know who had sent them. The Soroptimists will now send these off to the Backpack Project, to enable children in Malawi to get the education they need to lift them out of poverty.
