Our AGM was as always, a wonderful event. We did have to forego our customary meal beforehand but we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. We took this opportunity to hold the welcoming/induction ceremonies for our new members which had been put on hold over the last 2 years. It’s always thrilling to formally welcome new members, hear a bit about them and then to light a candle of friendship for them.
We had to follow the official AGM requirements, hearing reports from the clubs’ officials and voting in our new leadership team for the coming year and of course, President Kathy. The detailed report from our Programme Action Officers Jackie and Gail made for impressive reading - and if you want to see for yourself exactly how much we have achieved this year then the full Programme Action report is here.
Discussions took place around our charity for the new club year and this is to be voted on during our first business meeting of the new Soroptimist year.
Finally, we held our candle ceremony, which is a lovely tradition of the club, highlighting the work the officials do on behalf of the members and bringing the members together to acknowledge the hard work we do in the club and the organisation as a whole.
Welcome to International Women’s Day, March 8 2022. The United Nation's theme for this year's observance is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” in recognition and celebration of women and girls’ leadership and contribution towards a sustainable future.
As our contribution to marking out this significant day, we are highlighting the talents and achievements of some of our very own women and girls as part of our WOW women initiative. Our aim is to profile the varied career paths of local women and to inspire young girls to think differently about future work and career opportunities.
We’ve brought together a collection of profiles that exemplify the creativity, determination and diversity of our ‘homegrown’ talent! Just click on the video to see what we mean.
How can you be part of the celebrations?
You can help us too – like, share or circulate our YouTube link to your female friends, relatives or colleagues. WOW Women Video on YouTube
Or consider being one of our future profiles – we will be collecting and profiling WOW women throughout the year, and as an annual International Women’s Day activity.
